Detailed Protocol

Natural hormone not supplemented - extremely short half-life. All therapeutic GLP-1 drugs are modified analogs resistant to DPP-4 degradation (semaglutide, liraglutide, etc).

About GLP-1 (natural)

GLP-1 is a 30-amino acid incretin hormone produced by intestinal L-cells in response to food. It stimulates insulin secretion, suppresses glucagon, slows gastric emptying, and reduces appetite. Rapidly degraded by DPP-4 enzyme (half-life ~2 minutes), leading to development of DPP-4-resistant analogs for therapy.

Research Notes

Natural incretin discovered in 1980s. Foundation for entire class of diabetes and obesity medications. Native peptide too short-lived for therapy - all drugs are modified analogs.
