About Calcitonin

Calcitonin is a 32-amino acid peptide hormone produced by the thyroid gland. It inhibits osteoclast activity, reducing bone resorption. Synthetic salmon calcitonin is used therapeutically for osteoporosis, Pagets disease, and hypercalcemia.

Research Notes

FDA-approved for osteoporosis and Pagets disease. Salmon calcitonin more potent than human. Some safety concerns led to restricted use in some countries.
